What are your manufacturing capabilities?
Manufacturing is done in Boston, Massachusetts, Dallas, Texas, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. These facilities have matching capabilities: full ranges of extrusion equipment to make just about any size bag bags and film from 4 inches to 150+ inches in gauges up to 8 mils.
What are your typical custom lead times?
Custom lead times are the best in the industry, usually 4-10 business days. Because there are huge inventories of standard stock sizes in our distribution centers, we have the production flexibility to accommodate custom work quickly, and give it priority scheduling.
Are custom orders more expensive?
Custom orders are often less expensive than stock orders. Configured prices for custom items include real-time costs for dozens of price drivers – which allows us to be more aggressive. Additionally, for the most part, we incur no inventory or additional handling costs when producing custom products.
Should I expect an overrun (or under-run) on custom orders?
Yes. Custom jobs may include a standard 10% overrun or under run. This is due to the nature of "changeovers" in the extrusion process, wherein one job terminates and a new order is begun. As a continual flow process, there is no exact termination point for a given order.
Do you have a minimum stock order size?

What if I want a price on a stock quantity exceeding 100 cases?
Quantities of more than 25 cases or rolls of a single stock item may be eligible for an additional discount through our Made-to-Order program. When customers can wait standard custom lead-times, stock orders can be quoted as custom. Made-to-Order pricing reflects the production efficiencies reached.
Standard low density.
Low density polyethylene (LDPE) is the most versatile choice for a wide range of packaging needs, and for that reason, it is the material from which most of our stock poly bags and film are made. Low density is has excellent clarity and strength, and has adequate substance to protect most items it covers.
Clarity is the degree to which a film is transparent and clear of clouding. Resins are manufactured to match a profile, and that profile predicts its extrusion performance across a range of behaviors. One of the elements in a profile is haze, and when high clarity is critical to the display of a product, we can manufacture your film from resin with a low haze.
Linear low density.
Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) film has a molecular configuration that lends it to applications where strength, and puncture strength in particular, is more important than clarity. LLDPE films tend to stretch more than low density films before breaking, though they are typically lighter and provide less barrier protection.
How do "hexene", and "octene" LLDPE differ?
LLDPE film is manufactured from a blend of high-grade resins. However, bags and film can also be manufactured from pure hexene or octene resin. Hexene is a very strong LLDPE material, and will stand up to more rigorous demands than a standard blend. Octene is the preeminent LLDPE resin, and delivers the highest performance at a given weight of any LLDPE material.
When EVA, or ethyl-vinyl acetate, is present as 2-3% additive to a polyethylene resin, it can make a bag considerably stronger. EVA is often used in applications where a bag or film will be frozen, and helps the film resist cracking.
Anti-block is an additive that may reside in polyethylene resin or be mixed with a resin to alter its performance. When polyethylene resin is extruded, anti-block bleeds to the inside of the bags and increases the ease with which bags open.
Non-scratch bags and film contain little or no anti-block additive. This additive, when it bleeds to the inside of a bag, may appear as a fine powder capable of scratching very delicate products. Because anti-block also makes the inside of bags slippery, however, non-scratch bags and tubing will be very difficult to open.
Slip is an additive that may reside in polyethylene resin or be mixed with a resin to alter its performance. When polyethylene resin is extruded, slip bleeds to the outside of the bags and increases the degree to which they slip, or glide. Slip makes bags easy to handle and prevents them from sticking to one another. High slip bags call for extra slip additive which increases the degree to which bags glide in any given process or handling, whereas low slip bags inhibit movement and promote grip.
Transparent bags are see-through, regardless of their color. Light can pass through the film.
Opaque bags cannot be seen through, BUT, light can pass through the film.
How do I qualify for free freight?

Who pays the freight if my order is shipped from more than one location (due to insufficient inventory in one location)?
We do. We prepay freight on all stock orders over $500 shipped to a destination in the continental United States (Excluding Hawaii and Alaska), even when you split an order between warehouses. You are responsible for freight charges on orders under $500.
Do you own your own trucks?
No. We have established national contracts with a network of independent freight companies, including Yellow, New Century and USF. What's more, because of our high volume and 30 year shipping relationships, we have real clout with many carriers.
How much do you charge for shipping?
Freight charges are calculated by the weight. Weights are listed when you make a product selection in the catalog and on-line.

A Federal Test Method is a standard prepared in order to eliminate unnecessary or undesirable variations in general testing procedures, and to provide comparable measurements of the characteristics of different materials.
What is CONEG?

What is a shelf life item?
Shelf-life is important in products that are effective, useful or suitable for consumption for a limited period of time. They are expected to deteriorate or become unstable over time. Therefore a storage period is assigned to assure that the material will perform satisfactorily in service. Proper storage conditions for poly bags avoid sustained temperatures over 90 degrees F and under 32 degrees F. Sustained exposure to sunlight should also be avoided when the film material does not contain and anti-UV additives.
What does "Kosher" refer to in packaging?
Kosher refers to products that do not include any animal fats nor are animal fats used in the manufacturing process. Kosher products must be certified as "Kosher" through a Rabbi of the Jewish faith.
What is Latex Free?
Latex Free means that there is no rubber (Latex) in the product.
What is Oxygen Permeance (PO2)?
The ratio of oxygen transmission rate to the difference in partial pressure of O2 between the inside and outside of the material.
What is meant by a Barrier Bag?
Barrier bags offer protection from one or more environmental factors. They are typically "foil" bags. There are quantifiable levels of barrier protection for these films. Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate (MVTR) for water barrier, Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) for air permeability, Gas Transmission Rate (GTR) for non-oxygen vapors and Optical Density (OD) for light barrier properties. These are specifications that are frequently available from an end-user of the bag and they are a key component in selecting the proper material for use as an effective barrier bag. Barrier bags are also available in clear films, but they typically provide lower protection levels that those with buried metal construction.
What is an Anti-Static Bag?
Anti-Static bags are "non-tribocharging" - meaning that they do not create static electricity in and of themselves. They will not generate a "spark" when opened, closed, filled, emptied or handled. However, they DO NOT protect the component inside the bag from external static electricity. They are recommended for use with non-critical components that are being handled in a static sensitive environment, for example parts kits or instruction packets.
Why are Anti-Static Bags pink?
Richmond Technologies began the trend to color anti-static polyethylene with a pink dye to distinguish it from plain polyethylene. The pink is a tint. This has become the industry standard for the appearance and instant identification of these bags.
Why do Anti-Static Bags feel greasy and why do some come with a white powder on them?
The anti-static additive is an oil-based additive and gives the bag a smoother and slightly greasy feel. Over time this additive tends to "bloom" to the surface of the bag and reducing its effectiveness. Therefore, it is recommended that users observe no more than a one-year shelf life on anti-static bags. The additive can also cause anti-static bags to "block" or stick together and make them difficult to open. Most manufacturers will dust their anti-static film with corn starch or some other suitable powder to assist in reducing blocking.
What is the test method and conditions (temperature and relative humidity) used to determine acceptable anti-static properties?
There are numerous testing standards and procedures for testing anti-static properties of plastics. The most frequently done testing in plastic packaging products include, but are not limited to, Military Specification (MIL-81705D), NFPA 99, and ASTM D257. Mil Spec is used to test both the surface resistivity and static decay time at the most difficult conditions. The range of relative humidity is kept at 15 +/- 3% and the temperature is kept at 73 +/- 5 degrees F. All testing standards call for testing both the inside and outside of the bag or package.
How do I measure these bags?
Antistatic bags are measured just like regular poly bags. However, electro-static discharge (ESD), Mil-Spec, and barrier bags are really pouches - not bags. They should have 2 and 3 seals that measure either 3/3" or ¼" wide. The bags are then measured in terms of their inside diameter (width) since this is the usable area dimension with is exclusive of the seals.
